Sony just announced a new video camera that’s quite a worthy challenger to the Flip Video. The Bloggie Touch replaces the original Bloggie video camera and boasts a much sleeker design (dropping the swiveling LCD), a 3-inch touchscreen, 4 to 8 GB of internal memory, 1080p HD video recording, and 12.8 megapixel photographs. Like the Flip, it’s designed for quick and easy photos and videos on the go, and can connect to computers via a built-in USB connector.

At first glance, it appears to be missing an audio in jack and a tripod screw mount? Either way, I think it is an amazing design and can’t wait to get my hands on one to play around with.

It’ll be available starting in October for $180 to $200 depending on how much space you need.

The latest measurement of influence online is apparently being undertaken by Fast Company with their latest Influence Project. I am always interested on new ways of calculating and determining influence online so I gave it a try. Immediately I realized there was a problem as did a good amount of others calling it a “popularity contest” or “PR for Fast Company”. The issue at hand shows all influence is measured by total link clicks on a unique url given to each user who signs up:

The scale of your influence, and therefore the size of your photo, is based on two measures.

1. The number of people who directly click on your unique URL link. This is the primary measure of your influence, pure and simple.

2. You will receive partial “credit” for subsequent clicks generated by those who register as a result of your URL. In other words, anyone who comes to the site through your link and registers for their own account will be spreading your influence while they spread theirs. That way, you get some benefit from influencing people who are influential themselves. We will give a diminishing, fractional credit (1/2, ¼, 1/8 etc ) for clicks generated up to six degrees away from your original link.

Yep, there you have it. I will check in periodically on this project and would love to see what it looks like when it is finally printed in an actual issue of Fast Company. Here is a bit from Fast Company on what the Influence Project is all about:

What the Influence Project aims to do is remove some of the mystery behind the inherent passivity of social network numbers. This experiment will show what happens when an individual takes an audience at rest and applies an unbalanced force–through suggestion, advice or direction–that converts it into an army of action. That’s power that can be quantified and lead to an understanding that can be applied to both the largest and smallest of networks. No doubt it’s profound to address a million followers and get 100,000 of them to respond. But what does it mean when you have one hundred friends on Facebook and 97 of them click through to a site on your recommendation?

The clicks and networking and connectivity (out to six degrees!) collected in this experiment will provide a compass for where real influence lies on the Internet. It’s something I’m sure every business is curious to know more about. I also think it’s a powerful bit of awareness for anyone who wants to know who in their network is fully engaged with them.
